Recurrent selection for high iron and zinc concentrations in black bean grain

چکیده

The iron concentration (FeC) and zinc (ZnC) in common bean grain are quantitative traits, appropriate breeding techniques required to achieve genetic gain. aim of this study was obtain a recurrent selection population black increase the FeC ZnC select superior progenies for formation next cycle lines. base formed by crosses among ten parents. A total 351 were obtained, and, after two generations selection, 27 best evaluated field trials FeC, ZnC, 100 seed weight yield. Analyses variance carried out parameters estimated. heritability estimates ranged from 59 94% four traits. expected gain direct each trait (3 21%) simultaneous (1 4%) indicate success selection. eight progenies, selected based on have mean values, including those ‘BRS Supremo’ (10% 8% 5% 3.8% yield), Brazilian cultivar with highest ZnC. shows high variability potential obtaining lines cultivars currently market, allying agronomic performance grain. Furthermore, generating new cycle, recombination progenies.

Deciphering Genomic Regions for High Grain Iron and Zinc Content Using Association Mapping in Pearl Millet

Micronutrient malnutrition, especially deficiency of two mineral elements, iron [Fe] and zinc [Zn] in the developing world needs urgent attention. Pearl millet is one of the best crops with many nutritional properties and is accessible to the poor. We report findings of the first attempt to mine favorable alleles for grain iron and zinc content through association mapping in pearl millet. An as...

Association of Increased Grain Iron and Zinc Concentrations with Agro-morphological Traits of Biofortified Rice

Biofortification of rice (Oryza sativa L.) with micronutrients is widely recognized as a sustainable strategy to alleviate human iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) deficiencies in developing countries where rice is the staple food. Constitutive overexpression of the rice nicotianamine synthase (OsNAS) genes has been successfully implemented to increase Fe and Zn concentrations in unpolished and polished r...

Association mapping unveils favorable alleles for grain iron and zinc concentrations in lentil (Lens culinaris subsp. culinaris)

Lentil is a major cool-season grain legume grown in South Asia, West Asia, and North Africa. Populations in developing countries of these regions have micronutrient deficiencies; therefore, breeding programs should focus more on improving the micronutrient content of food. In the present study, a set of 96 diverse germplasm lines were evaluated at three different locations in India to examine t...

Recurrent Selection to Alter Grain Phytic Acid Concentration and Iron Bioavailability

Iron is an important micronutrient and Fe deficiency is a global health concern. phytic acid inhibits Fe absorption and cannot be digested by monogastric livestock or humans. High phytate concentration in staple crops may be one of the contributing factors for the high incidence of anemia in developing countries because of its inhibiting effect on Fe absorption. In seeds, it serves as the main ...

Genetic dissection of seed-iron and zinc concentrations in chickpea

The SNP-based high-resolution QTL mapping mapped eight major genomic regions harbouring robust QTLs governing seed-Fe and Zn concentrations (39.4% combined phenotypic variation explained/PVE) on six chromosomes of an intra-specific high-density genetic linkage map (1.56 cM map-density). 24620 SNPs discovered from genome-wide GBS (genotyping-by-sequencing) and 13 known cloned Fe and Zn contents-...
